Default Italian POW Camp (WWII) Lodge Moor Sheffield

The site was originally a Victorian racecourse, then an WW1 army training camp, then a POW camp, then it fell into disrepair and now is a plantation. It is right opposite the 3 Merry Lads pub and you can find an aerial photo here (

The camp is the plantation to the south of the road. There are still the remains of the buildings and roads in the woods.

Most of the POW's held in the Sheffield area were Italian and as "low risk" prisoners they were detailed to undertake work in the local area. Some of them after the war doing work in 1945 - 47 before being repatriated. A few of them may even have chosen to stay in this area after their release.

Right we had mooch no three..Here are some images..

Will have further walks this was rather big and overgrown..
