Rickerby's were established in 1880 and have 7 sites in the North of England and the Scottishe Borders with a head office in Carlisle. They supply agricultural and grasscare machinery and had a showroom and workshop on Brunswick Road in Penrith. McCarthy and Stone were set to develop the site until the "credit crunch" and then had second thoughts. Rickerby's had already moved to a new site on the industrial estate in Penrith, so the vacant premises were offered to Booths (Preston based supermarket group) who already had planning permission for the adjacent property . Booths applied for planning permission for the larger store and seem to have had some problems in getting it, so both buildings are still empty at the moment, but the local paper seems to think development will start soon http://www.cwherald.com/archive/arch...0618351765.htm .

It was a nice relaxed explore, everything is still in good condition inside.
