Arrow RAF Yatesbury Wiltshire June 2010

    Hi All

This was a trip I wanted to do for ages RAF Yatesbury was opened in 1917 and closed in 1969 and up untill that time
it was used as a radio training school, it was part of 27 Grp attached to RAF Cirencester.

It did have 2 runways, grass and covered with steel matting (called Somerfield track) but these are long gone, but
the traing school still exists, A property developer did buy the site and was trying to turn it in to expencive flats and
office space but to there credit they were also doing up the old hangers and keeping the look of the buildings.

But the money has run out and the project has come to a halt.

Anyway enough, lets get on with some pictures.

Theses are the steps that lead down in to the boiler room under the main accomadation building, then on the
right is the boiler itself (ummmmmm boiler goodness)

Inside the accom block, as you can see the upper floors have gone and the ones that are left are a death trap.

One of the buildings that I love is the standby set house, this would of housed the generators for the site. The over head
crain is still in place and the steel roller doors mec is also still there

The picture on the left is one of the 6 Stanton air raid shelters on site, it`s a pitty that all of them have been sealed up
even the emergency exits have been caped with steel plate. The picture on the right is looking out to the main court yard
from one of the accom block wings.

Well thats about it for now, thanks for looking all comments are most welcome.
if you want to see more from RAF Yatesbury go and have a look at my FlickR site.
