    Arrow Glenroyal Cinema/Bingo - Shipley (May '09)

Tons of history on the place here http://www.kingsdr.demon.co.uk/cinem...ley/glenro.htm

    All shots taken on film

our only light source in the projection room was a tiny crack in the ceiling... add that to a sunny day, and lots of dust for a wicked beam of light!!

    info for above pic...
A mercury arc valve (mercury vapor rectifier) is a type of electrical rectifier which converts alternating current into direct current. Rectifiers of this type were used in electric motor power supplies for industry, in electric railways, streetcars and electric locomotives. They also found use in static inverter stations and as rectifiers for high-voltage direct current power transmission. Mercury arc rectifiers were invented by Peter Cooper Hewitt in 1902 and further developed throughout the 1920s and 1930s by researchers in both Europe and North America. Before the advent of solid-state devices, mercury arc rectifiers were one of the more efficient rectifiers. By 1975, high-voltage solid state devices such as the silicon diode and thyristor made the mercury arc rectifier obsolete even in high-voltage DC applications.

The place has been trashed now unfortunately. Luckily, I got in before they did! The suspended ceiling in the cinema area (last pic) had been torn down. Crap graffiti all over the place, holes in walls. Bloody chavs!!

A couple more shots from Shipley while I'm here.
Didn't feel they needed a new thread as it's only an old wool warehouse by the canal.
Again, shot on film, these were from before I had digital!

It was a bit of a climb to get in the warehouse. I've not been down for a while, but my mate informs me they bricked up where we got in.

Some more pics then... nothing amazing, as it's just an empty warehouse. The boats were a nice find tho.

Converse, this is where you'd get to by boat!
