Arrow The Elms Orphanage, Arbroath - April 2008

Went here at the end of our mini road trip with Dazzababes and Commander. Was a great building although the bits we were able to explore were limited as you'll see in a minute. Lots of collapsed floors, pigeon crap and the other usual hazards - definitely one I'm happy with visiting once in my life.

It was built some time in the 1850's as someone's mansion house before eventually becoming a hotel and then finally an orphanage before closing 17 years a go. There doesn't seem to be too much in the way of vandalism, just wads of dry rot everywhere!

It's a belting looking building, although you've showed us how appearences can be deceptive once inside!

    Really nice

If you can stomach the pigeon deposits then it looks like a great place to have a wander around. Still plenty nice features to see and your photos show it quite well I think.

I wonder what state it's in now...

    Stunning building! Beautiful architecture
The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.

thanks lads / lasses. it was quite interesting, but very bare and also very dodgey! straddling 15ft deep chasms with only a loose doorframe to hold on to does make you question the point!

It was comedy though when Dazzababes rushed to the entry point to get out before me, just incase I plugged the gap with my ass and no one could escape lol! i'm not even that fat!!

This is one place I keep meaning to stop off at and havent as yet - I beleive the locals have aided in its further demise but looking at your pics makes me want to go see. Nice one Alir.
