Dalquharran Mansion

This is a Castle style mansion built for Thomas Kennedy of Dunure, designed by Robert Adam around 1786, the wings were added in 1881. The mansion was built to replace an older 15th century castle whose ruins still exist not far from where this mansion was built. All interiors have been lost, as was the roof in 1970. In front of the main entrance, and forming an integral part of the design, stands a long low horse stable building connected at either end to the main building by screen walls with gateways.

Since 1991 there have been various interested parties in refurbishing the mansion to various Hotel and golf course designs, planning permission has varied depending upon the plans, however today it still stands in its stripped state awaiting a large fund of money – similar to one or two other Scottish castles people may be familiar with.
