I'm reposting this after at least attempting to fix a very poor set of pictures of such a grand site. Bridewell Island was the central offices for both the Police & Fire Brigade for most of the 20th century. The complex was made up of a police station, cells, court rooms, main head quarters/CID offices and an additional fire station complete with tower in the courtyard.
The police station was the last remaining operational part of the building and closed in the mid noughties. The court rooms, head quarters closed in the 80s and the fire-station sometime before that. When put up for sale in 2005 it was regarded at the most expensive plot of real estate ever in Bristol. It's rumoured to have been sold, to urban splash, for in excess of £15 million. Currently used as an art space project and air soft location while plans are still being finalised on a mixed residential/commercial use for the site. Most of the outer buildings will be retained but sadly the courtrooms will likely be lost
