The Fylde Water Board created a large reservoir above Slaidburn, by flooding the valley of the River Hodder. To move materials, a 3 foot gauge railway was built, with a main line of 5 miles and numerous branches to quarries, etc.
Upon completion in 1932, the railways were dismantled, but this quarry branch remained, discovered by following up a pub story! The quarry crane is standard gauge, the other track is 3 foot. Its survival is a mystery, but I would be surprised if anything is left now!
