Arrow Luton Railway Station Crane - April 2009 - ARCHIVE

Admittedly, it took a wee bit of Dutch courage, which may not have been the smartest of ideas...but back in April finally did my first crane!!

I was completely hooked. (boom boom)

I first spotted this crane had gone up on a Monday when I was arriving back in town on the coach from Paris and decided it had to be done. Didn't get 'round to it Monday night, Tuesday night was raining, Wednesday night...well, no excuse really...but Thursday night, after the town and a long walk home looking at it, I decided this was the night.

What a buzz! After arriving home, I grabbed my camera and tripod and made my way down there. The crane is situated on the site of the old Luton Railway Workers' Club (of which I've posted a report previously on another forum) which has been recently demo'd...right next to Luton Central Station...

I stayed up there for half an hour or so snapping and enjoying the view. The night was the mildest and calmest I've experienced in a long time and I wish I could have stayed up there longer - and possibly climbed higher, but it was getting light and the early bird commuters were beginning to arrive on the platforms, so I decided not to push my luck.

    Unfortunately the cab was locked.

    On the way out

Not the highest of cranes but we've gotta start somewhere!

It was alright back when I did it, but the project's moved along now and there's a lot more stuff on site including a second crane, so not sure to be honest!
