Glebe School, Scone - 06/08/09

I'm almost embarassed to post this seeing as, I walk out my front door, turn right, walk about 300 yards down the street, turn right again and I get here.

Glebe School was up until earlier this year, a school for special needs kids aged 10 - 18, with full boarding for 3 boys and 3 girls onsite. At last available count, its register contained 21 boys and 13 girls and offered specialised education and support for Visual Impairment ,Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and Language and Communication Disorders.

The pupils and staff of this school and the similar Cherrybank School merged and have now moved to a purpose built centre more centrally located with better facilities etc. The site is currently access for a nearby block of flats getting built and also houses a Capability Scotland residential holiday cottage. A few of the other buildings on site seem to be inhabited.

The building is very secure, I scouted the perimeter twice but did not see one opportunity that could be considered an above board access opportunity. Still, it was a lovely day, and there was still features enough worth looking at (to me anyway) and I figured it made for a nice upbeat explore compared to the gloomy despair of earlier in the week.

and one from the corner of the back playing field, I actually sat on the grass in the sun for about half an hour writing down some thoughts for a piece of writing I'm working on and just having some quiet time, imagining the kids having a generally nice time playing here.





The pathways and courtyards are just starting to get overgrown and full of weeds. There was loads of wildlife about and ever corner turned resulted in the rather exciting flurry of rabbits hiding in the undergrowth darting out.

On the main, the grounds were pretty tidy, the only human detritus I came across was a couple of magnetic fridge letters, and a postcard which I don't think would have belonged to any of the residents, maybe it'd ended up there from the nearby old folks home.





From the main door, a metal fire escape led up to the roof, with some skylights to the right and a smaller fire escape leading from an upper classroom window.

Decay is starting to creep in.


There are a few of these villas onsite, the former residential dorms. At least 2 of them are currently inhabited.


I just love the utilitarian staircases.


Some playground games. I broke my tripod crouching down to take one of these, I took it as some kind of celestial confirmation to buy the new tripod I'd been looking at earlier in the week.


Finally for here, looking in a window I saw these clockfaces which I found sort of weird as despite having lived so close most of my life, I'm pretty sure there never was a clocktower?!

Pretty sure I've solved the clock-face conundrum.

I couldn't help but feel that they looked familiar and on Sunday as I passed St Paul's Church, a sad derelict sitting on the junction of the Old High Street and South Methven Street in Perth city centre, I looked up to see 2 of the 4 faces missing.

They looked so familiar because my Granny lives one street away and I've seen them every time I've visited her in the last 29 years. I guess the Council have taken them down before they fell out and killed someone.

I might see if I can speak to some Council people about getting into St Paul's for a look before it falls down or gets turned into yet another idiots drinking shed although I reckon it's probably a few feet deep in pigeonshit by now.
