Craigo Mill was originally owned by Richards from Aberdeen in the 19th century and was sold to J & D Wilkie of Kirrimuir in 1868 and remained with them until 1987 when it was closed as the company phased out jute spinning, 74 jobs were lost at Craigo and only 24 were created at its Kirrimuir plant.
The mill was rebuilt as a mostly rubble-built unit in 1909 and most of the jute warehouses, most which are corrugated sheet metal were added after this date. The mill had 31 spinning frames.
Jute is one of the cheapest natural fibres and is second only to cotton in amount produced, it is also known as Hessian, with most production now in Asia.

I get the impression this place was abandoned more than "closed" considering whats left.
