HSBC left this building last year according to one source. It was built in the 1930s as the Midland Bank Manchester office. The bank was designed by Edwin Lutyen's in the art deco style of the period (his other structure in the city is the war memorial), and has the shape of a ziggurat (a popular element of the art deco style) and is very tower like in form - it reminded me of a miniature version of a 1930s New York skyscraper. The sculptures around the roof were designed by J Ashton Ford.
The building I believe is now being redeveloped, many floors have been stripped out.
Visited with j3bu and bungle, though bumped into others
