Arrow Barrow Gurney Mental Hospital, Bristol-March 2010

A few of us went to Barrow Hospital today the place was amazing!
It was a shame that some of the buildings have been knocked down but it happens. There also is a building that i would avoid due to the smell and Asbestos, maybe okay if you take a mask but is it worth the risk?

I am also trying to find any information about other places in and around the west country if anyone has knowledge of such places can you please contact me.

I have seen photos on here of a place called Bridge Valley Deep Shelter runs near the A4? Does anyone know how to get to where it starts and how to get in?

Thanks guys this site is amazing.

Yes, although I haven't been for several months to know exactly what is left. By the looks of your pictures it just seems that parts of the main administration building, the mother and baby unit and woodside buildings remain. This is an aerial shot of the site

Most of the buildings to the south/south west are gone. The first was the very modern secure unit (brockley house) which I guess went nearly 18 months ago now.. the villas (John Carey, Dundry) etc went last summer and Southside was barely a shell.

It's crazy to see how fast it deteriorated. When it closed it was pretty much impossible for the first 2-3 years
