St Lawrence's Hospital, Bodmin - December 08

The first buildings of Bodmin Lunatic Asylum later St Lawrences hospital were built in 1920, many of these have now been demolished or converted for housing but still in the center of the site between a small community hospital and the housing developments there is still standing The Foster building one of the annexeswas built between 1902 and 1906 butwas offically opened and christened in 1904. Named for the chairman of the hospitals visiting commitiee Henry Durrant Foster it intially housed 290 male paitents in 8 multi story Wards. The building was designed by Cornish architect Silvanus Travil using locally scourced materials. In 1927 large part of the foster building was destroyed by a fire which started in an electrical chandeller in the recreation hall, Following the fire ,it was remodeled to its current apearence with its green glased tiled walls covered by wooden paneling and an new celing was installed. The Hospital was finnally closed in 2002 and now remains relatively untouched, though its disgusting to see some group has left the remains of their lunch on the stage, for fucks sake clean up after you especially in such a secure building it doesnt take much to work out someones been in if you leave sandwich wrapers with dates on.
