Arrow South Creake ROC Post (Norfolk Group) January 2012

Stayed over the weekend up in "rain & wind swept", Norfolk and got in a bit of UE

First up was South Creake, ROC Post, situated in the middle and beyond! Known as Post No.16, it closed in 1991, the Post was taken over by the guys at AWRE, Aldermarston, as one of five UK Seismic Monitoring Stations set up to monitor the Worldwide Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. It ceased that function in 2005, and now lays abandoned. Most of the AWRE equipment was stripped out, but numerous parts remain, mostly the old battery boxes and the later BT telephone point.

A WWII Observation post lays near by. After the war, it was later given a reinforced concrete roof/slab! Whether this was a Cold War addition is unsure, however the original Observer's plotting post! now sits under the slab with a nice old armchair.

The post is open and is only secured by a chain.

The battery boxes in the corner originally held the AWRE's power supply.

A few original items remain like an observers chair, jerrycan and the Elsan toilet.

There use to be a full ROC Comms kit on the right board, but this has dissappeared since 2009? The smaller board on the left was the later BT board for the AWRE, the only remains is the white BT connection box.

    AWRE markings for Seismic Identification?

The WWII Observation Post has a small inner room, the concrete roof was added after WWII.

The original Observers, plotting mount, buried under the concrete roof, with a nice easy chair now taking up residence!

    Thanks for looking

Nice post that one, it is in the middle of nowhere though.

Can't remember if the carrier was still there when I went.

Nice tidy post, if you stand on top of the observers post you can see the coast line.

Because of its rural location, the post is in a good condition, the only water was in the sump which is just below the grill.
KE, when you visited the comms was still on the wall Alas not so now

Yep, from what I remember, this was in a pretty damp area with swamps and stuff so it must be a well built one.

I visted North Stainley on Saturdy which sits high atop a windy hill and it's flooded......
