Some History

Clipstone Colliery is a coal mine situated near the village of the same name on the edge of an area of Nottinghamshire known as “The Dukeries” because of the number of stately homes in the area. The colliery was owned by the Bolsover Colliery Company and passed to the National Coal Board in 1947. The colliery was closed by the Coal Board in 1993, but was later reopened by RJB Mining in 1994 before closing for a final time in April 2003. Clipstone Colliery boasts the largest headstocks in Europe and 3rd largest in the world.

Sorry in advance for the (likely in comparison) poor quality of the photos, I have an awful camera and we made the mistake of doing this at pretty late and the daylight faded pretty quickly.

I like this place, some good shots boss- Maybe a bit less urbex tilt and a bit more thought about the subject- Some fairly bizarre crops in there...
