    Default Bomb shelter tunnel/Croatia/Karlovac

After visiting the Bosiljevo castle we went to Karlovac. It way already very dark so we had some trouble finding the tunnel. We searched for half an hour and we finally saw it. I think I expected to see some tunel hatch or something small and hidden, but this was damn huge. The entrance is located next to the cemetery, and that added a special atmosphere...

According to Professor Vladimir Peršin, the NDH army built the shelter during the frequent air raids , while in 1950. the work continued under the auspices of the JNA. The tunnel beneath the old city seems to be be built as an underground shelter, which also served as a warehouse. The construction was soon suspended due to lack of money, and the underground concrete structure proved to be a complete failure.

Four meters wide concrete entrance to the tunnel, leads to the hall eight meters wide. Only 40 meters of the tunnel are acceseble. Because of soil erosion and land slides, a large part of the tunnel is collapsed.

This is a small report, and has a few pics but I think you'll like it

The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.
