Arrow Soldiers Point, Holyhead - July 2011

DO YOU LIKE WALLPAPER? I LIKE WALLPAPER. THIS PLACE HAS NICE WALLPAPER.

Known locally as the Wedding Cake (probably), Soldiers Point was originally the home of someone or other connected to the construction of the Grade 2 listed Holyhead Breakwater in the mid-19th century, at 1.7 miles long the longest breakwater in the UK. Was it John Hawkshaw, the engineer responsible for designing much of Holyhead's harbour works, but best known for designing both the Suez Canal and London's Circle Line? Hell if I know, this is all before my time. Let's assume it was.

Some time after whoever the hell was living there stopped living there, let's say for argument's sake the 32nd June 1956, the building was converted into the Soldier's Point Hotel. In 2006 there was a fire, and you don't need me to tell you what happens when you introduce a fire to a hotel. According to locals, you can see Blober's hair from the top of the tallest turret, but access was tricky and I was unable to confirm.

It's wrecked, and it would have been nice to seen this place years ago, but you can't have everything, can you.
