You really believe that al-Megrahi was responsible.. now that's mad I tell ye

His stitch-up, detention and subsequent release had more to do with politics than justice. The UN observer to the case (Dr Hans Köchler) has expressed his concern about way the trial was handled (the defence were denied knowledge of evidence that would have supported their case, etc). If someone said little green men from Mars were responsible I think I'd find that easier to believe than the official version.
But this way lies politics and madness.. ..

It's only really technical evidence for the ongoing suit by the victims families, not as such criminal evidence in a CSI sense. The only thing holding back scrapping it for razor blades and coke cans is legal administrative technicalities. The iconic cockpit section are still supposed to be there, but I believe it had to be cut into sections to remove it from the crash site.

Did not see the cockpit, to be fair I didn't want to mooch through it, just being there was freaking me out.

Just seen this now - I must have been in Bulgaria when you posted it. I originally hail from Dumfries, not too far away from the site where it came down and know several people that were affected directly or indirectly by the bombing, some of which are still in pain over their loses. Thanks for posting - it's given me a gentle reminder to catch up with a few folks....
