RAF West Raynham including Control Tower and Rapier Dome - Norfolk - May 2011

At last I found myself on the hallowed ground of West Raynham airfield, closed by the MOD in 1994, the site has stood empty for many years and now hosts about eight million sheep. The domestic site is now a housing estate. Back in 2008 I was asked to leave by a man in a 4x4. Suprisingly, he's still there, driving around and spotted me on the way out......I gave him the slip this time though

The base was the main control, repair and training centre for the Bloodhound 2 missile system which protected us all for many decades.

Still loads to see here including the modern control tower, Rapier training dome and some massive hangers

My tour started with the storage sheds for the Bloodhound Missliles, now sheep sheds

There is a Castle Castings Cold-War 3-phase siren on top of the main water tower! that's even better!
