    Default Underground Reservoir, lancashire. 5/11

after seeing ojays report from here me and BB decided to have a look at it. i was surprised how easy it was to find this on the internet! after we had confirmed it was there off we went. we found it almost straight away once we got there and only bumped in to the owner who opened the gate for us and let us in!

history:- Bolton Council bought the New Hey site in the early 1960s and turned it into an underground reservoir in 1963.

With its thick concrete walls, it was designed to store up to 12 million litres of water in case of a water shortage but it was never used and United Utilities, which now manages the North West’s water supply, sold it to Harwood Homes for £21,000.

The reservoir is roughly 40m wide, 40m long and 5.4m high. and from what the owner said the concrete is almost 5ft thick at the bottom. plans are for the underground reservoir to be transformed into a £2 million luxury house under innovative plans drawn up by a Bolton developer. who will create a five-bedroom luxury home with a swimming pool.

it really is a great place to see and every little sound echo's like hell in there!

    Nice snaps.

Echoing in eclosed underground things like this are great, Lanberris bomb store has great echos. I'd love to set a firework off in there.

and thanks to the turbocharging, it feels more muscular. If I may be permitted to liken the Ferrari 458 to a kingfisher, then the MP4-12C is a gannet.

it was great but it was hard work at times! for example when i was doing the self portraits trying to listen for the shutter so i could move again and BB is running around practicing his one man band routine!
