I recently spent a weekend in North Yorkshire celebrating the father-in-law's retirement which gave me the opportunity to visit Jervaulx Abbey.
A whistle stop tour of 850 odd years of history...The abbey was founded in 1156 and disbanded during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. Between 1805 and 1807 the ruins were excavated. The estate has had a number of owners over the years and was last purchased in 1971 by Major & Mrs W V Burdon. Today it is cared for by their son Ian and his wife Carol.
