RAF Honiely / Prodrive - Fen End, West Midlands.Summer 2010

These are some fairly old pictures from last year, but the place is pretty cool so thought I would stick 'em up on here!

RAF Honiley is a former Royal Air Force station located in Wroxall, Warwickshire seven miles (11 km) southwest of Coventry, England. The station closed in March 1958, and after being used as a motor vehicle test track, is presently subject to planning permission from the Prodrive Formula One team for development of their Fulcrum test and development facility.

It is also the site of the HON (Honiley) VOR-DME navigation aid, which is positioned to the south of the track. Also Manchester international airport (EGCC) use their SID/STAR departure out of Runways 23R and 23L (formerly 24R and 24L). Some are HON1Y "honiley one yankie" departure out of runway 23L. And the HON1R "honiley one romeo" Departure out of runway 23R. The old administration buildings, previously used by Lucas Automotive have been left by Prodrive in the same state they were when Lucas first vacated the site and have become a popular site for Urban Explorers, also quite cunningly located as I found out whilst walking my dog that this place is near enough in my back garden and I can see it whilst cleaning my teeth in the morning lol

































Finally a shot of the old runway, the buildings are all hidden in the trees to the right of the picture!


There is a few more bits and bobs I have yet to photograph, including an old wind tunnel, but planning to head up in the next week or so and will update this thread!
