Default Holborough Tracks - Kent - March 2011

Whilst search around on Google earth and searching the internet, i came upon this rather random site. Underneath a roundabout on a duel carriage way is this set of tracks which are connected to no where else and run for about 100 to 150 meters. Ive search about for history about this length of tracks but i cant seem to find anything but year ago there was chalk mines and mills near by and i think that it may have something to do with that or something to do with the nearby Medway Valley train line. It was a nice little explore and slightly weird walking about with all the traffic just above you and not knowing whats there, as you cant see the track from the road. Anyways on with the pictures

The rather sudden and random start to the track

    Detail on the sleepers

    The end of the line

View of either way from the middle

Found loads of these random metal casing around the place

And finally my favorite shot of the explore

    Enjoy

Perhaps they forgot about this place, we all know what the rail companies are like

Is that near the High Speed Rail Line? if so it could have been part of contractors track for hauling ballast away for the line/construction?
Although the ballast on that stretch of track looks quite fresh!
Maybe the SST is covered under the mound of earth at the end?

Its a couple of miles away from where the High Speed Rail line cross's the Medway river on the huge bridges, the nearest track that is used is the Medway Valley Line which is within about 20 - 30 meters away, and know that i think that roundabout and the area about was redesigned a year or two ago so the track cant be that old cause its only appeared since that work was done, which explains why the ballast looks quite fresh i suppose, so its abit of a mystery, going to keep up the hunt for history though
