Not much of an explore but more a trip down memory lane . as a kid i remember fishing at the base and walking the still live bridge to the other side if the fishing was crap . A nice day out though , and if you take wellys the tunnels are available to be explored .The leamside line ran over the bridge . Opened on the 28th june 1838 , the day of queen victorias coronation . opened by the durham junction railway it branched off the east coast line . Closed by beecham for passenger use it remained in use as a freight line . It is the second largest masonry bridge with the main arches spanning 160 foot and 144 foot . The rails are 135 foot above the river level . The largest is Ballochmgle .
