Arrow Weston Pier, The Grand Reopening - October 2010

You may or may not remember in July 2008 that the dear old pier at Weston caught fire and was completely destroyed. The fire made the news worldwide. It was a blaze that was so hot that it melted the coins in many of the arcade games. I could see the smoke from the blaze in our offices in Bristol. That's 20 miles away.

It was a write off, gone, dead. The pier IS Weston, it's what the entire population of the midlands thrive for when they make their annual visit. I visited a couple of days after the visit, you could sense it meant a lot to everyone in the town.. when have you ever seen flowers for a building?

The owners said they would do everything in their powers to return the pier to its former glory. Rumours still persist about just how the pier caught. In fact most locals seem to suggest it's the worst kept secret in the town. Whatever the case and after a stack of delays that essentially wrote off any hope of opening it for this years summer holidays.. today the pier reopened. £51 Million pounds later, Weston has it's pier back and hopefully will kick start the regeneration of the town which is very tired in places. The Midlands can rejoice once more, they can have their fish and chips and walk along the pier once more before throwing hard earned cash into the ledgers and cuddly toy cranes.

Hopefully they do this with Hastings, shows that it can be done!

Nice one mate - good to see it rebuilt rather than being knocked down. Good to see pictures of the new one two, with the old pictures on there as well.
