This tunnel was built because the landowner did not wish to see traisn travelling through his land, and without this route, the new line that was being constructed would have had to take a massive diversion. All in all, it caused this awesome 3km tunnel to be constructed.
Opened in 1897 and closed under the beeching act in the sixties. It has since been studied to see if the route can be reopened.
