Opened in 1962 and closed September 1991. Post is in good conditon and sits in a fairly tidy compound. The hasps have been cut, but no access as I didn't have a Scottish key with me! An orlit A stands by the fence, this also has part of its removable roof intact.

There's a few interesting things in that area – couple of old railway tunnels and some other bits and pieces. Btw, if you don't have a Scottish key, you can often get them open using a couple of bits of fence wire bent in a particular way…
Yeah was told about the wire trick a few months later, was up there working so was also limited on time :(
Would wire be strong enough to shift the tbar, theyre normally quite stiff.
Apparently it can work, don't forget the scottish ones dont have the heavy locking mechanism.

Marvyn - depends on the hatch, but back in the day I got a couple open using wire, after which I managed to acquire a proper key.
Oh right i knew Scottish was different to standard design externally but didnt know they didnt have a large locking mechanism. How do you they work inside?....

You can easily open them with a coat hanger.
You just need a couple of bits of wire twisted at right angles.
Will have to try it somehow i was planning to have an roc adventure in scotland later in the year.
That post looks pretty battered you could get that open anyway, scottish t bar or a crowbar the hatch looks rusted to hell and back. Still good one on getting out there will remind TM to get a scottish t bar for when we one day go on a sctotland roc roadtrip
Just get a key sorted before you go Jack, it would be easier.
The post isn't in too bad condition and the hatch is pretty solid. I had been to a job nearby and just didn't have the time to hang around trying to get in unfortunately. Pretty annoying really as I dont think anyone has been in since Catford :(
Seems there shouls be a few interesting bits in...
the scottish ones always seem in quite good nick compared to further south. Maybe the scots yobs are too wasted on Buckfast to bother vandalising them:)
