Gartloch Asylum - Glasgow - Sept 09
The City of Glasgow bought Gartloch estate in 1889 and built this asylum - the first patient arrived in 1896 and the last left in 1996 when the place finally was closed.
Visited with Dazzababes early one morning - excuse my terrible light painting.
This is situated on the grass outside the main building and claims there is a "time capsule" buried below.
The grand main building with the towers - I was struck by the awesome ornate detailings on all the buildings, even is such stages of advanced conversion these asylum building blew me away - I found a match to Denbigh in my mind.

to the right is the main hall building, the two little square openings in the white bit is the old projector openings - there was a projector room "stuck" on the side of the building - to the left is one of the wards.

In the early 90's a series was made "Takin Over the Asylum" with Ken Stott and David Tennant - this was broadcast in 1994 - this pic shows the room that the Hospital Radio was set up and in fact a lot of the filming for the series.
