The site was originally a Victorian racecourse, then an WW1 army training camp, then a POW camp, then it fell into disrepair and now is a plantation. It is right opposite the 3 Merry Lads pub and you can find an aerial photo here (http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&x=428000.489999383&y=386250.220181367&width=700&height=410&scale=5000&down.x=10&down.y=18).

The camp is the plantation to the south of the road. There are still the remains of the buildings and roads in the woods.

Most of the POW's held in the Sheffield area were Italian and as "low risk" prisoners they were detailed to undertake work in the local area. Some of them after the war doing work in 1945 - 47 before being repatriated. A few of them may even have chosen to stay in this area after their release.

Right we had mooch no three..Here are some images..

We know there is more but it is finding it in the overgrown stuff, as of last night we have a copy of the plan so a mooch with that might find us more, a mate who cuts grass for a living was doing that in the field at the side.

So we had the sound of his tractor to find ourselves back out and that worked, next it will be string from where we began i joke not it is very overgrown in there.

Yes and for years i was told there had been one oh it must have been the hospital, we never looked at why there was wall round the woods or even thought of having a look there we always took it as the hospital, six look out towers looking at the plans seems this place was erm big.. Yes further mooching is a must for here.. All from a water works and we find this.. Watch this space..
