Whatever the rights or wrongs of the old asylums, I do believe the people who were employed to run them really did buy into the place of safety aspect and felt they were doing the best they could for the inmates and for the better of man. Along with that, and I think we can all agree there was a real sense of pride in their respective institutions. The damage I have shown here relates pretty much to original features, how many times were those fireplaces highly polished and those tiled floors cleaned to the point you could eat your dinner off them.

Yes it is to be expected that things will change and not always for the better, but what gets me is the mentality behind the smashing of the fireplaces to the point they are beyond redemption, just to get a small piece of carving. At least with the clock mechanism and faces there is a good chance they will survive and once again be some ones pride and joy.

I always thought the bulk of the site would be demolished but the clock tower admin would survive as a rather grand country house.

One thing is for sure these old boys pictured above would be turning in their graves if they were aware of what has happened.

That's a truly sad sight indeed, even though we all knew the inevitable impending doom :(

And certainly not a sight I would like to witness first hand either.

At least I can look back at what once was Mid Wales.
