I was using a 35mm prime for this (and had my film camera.. the 36 film got choked inside so not sure if any of those shots came out, will find out when I develop them at work).

Shanwell Upper Air Station is RAF Leuchars former Weather Station where it would have measured air temp, wind speed, moisture, etc. I am not sure of it's age, a couple of UrbExers who were going around with their film/DSLR's told TheSurveyor and I that they believe it dates from the Cold War. They have been going there for years and the local kids like this place as well...
We were actually looking for anti-tank blocks and pillboxes and stumbled across this :)

I like Shanwell a lot – it's just across the water – a fine chilled mooch with an ever-changing gallery of graf. You used to be able to get onto the roofs as well?

I think the concrete pillar in your last pic was a mount for a theodolite or similar, so they could measure the effect of wind speed/ drift on the radiosonde balloon as it rose.

Cool, cheers Wolfism :)

Yeah I did notice some steps at the side of the building, next to a lot of nettles, spikey things and trees and gave it a miss :D
