1970's Fire Brigade plans refer to these as "D.O.E Tunnels"; and they are located just east of the Oil Mills caves. The tunnels possibly date back to the 19th century but have most probably been worked on over a period of years.

There is evidence like the decaying poster on the wall, that these tunnels were used as an Air Raid Shelter during WW2. A stairway built during this time also leads off the tunnels and down to the main train tunnel nearby.

I heard a rumour somewhere stating any injured soldiers returning from battle would get off at a platform inside the train tunnel and make their way through the tunnels as opposed to continuing through the train tunnel into Priory station.

Severe roof falls have occurred at both ends of a tunnel intersecting the main chamber, however within the main chamber is a display of immense brickwork still in good condition.

Apologies for the overused Fisheye :)
