Word War 2 munitions storage, covering 2.5 acres of disused limestone workings 100ft below ground.

During the Second World War this cavern was used as a store for more than 11000 tons of bombs, including most famously the 'bouncing bombs' as used by the RAF's 617 Squadron 16–17 May 1943 to breach the Möhne and Eder dam, causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and the villages of the Eder valley.

Later it re-opened as the world largest military museum, housing a range from a First World War trench to a section on the Falklands campaign.

Closing in the early 80's the place is now sealed up and lies mothballed below Flintshire.

Access was comedy as ever, just as we entered the perimeter we could hear dogs barking and getting louder by the minute, (Gulp).

Anyway safely in, we just needed to get back out....
