The usual suspects and myself decided to spend a couple of days in beautiful Wales to look at some old ruins. Finding these places is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Most of the minor and very minor roads are signposted in Welsh and criss cross all over the place. Even the old sat nav was confused.
Day 1 was to seek out Neuadd Fawr Mansion and It's sprawling estate. After adding on extra miles we eventually drove up the correct track. The estate lies amongst a working farm, and after making pleasantries with the owners we were allowed to wander at will as long as we didn't venture inside the buildings! And upon closer inspection I had to agree. Upper floors had collapsed and parts were just hanging on the precipice.
History is sketchy but the farmer said that Prince Charles had once shown interest in purchasing the estate which is grade 2 listed. It's now just left enveloped by nature itself.

Day 2 dawned, and nursing a hangover from the previous nights beer swilling marathon and the worst ever Chinese meal imaginable!! We decided to seek out Iscoed Mansion. Once the centre of an 800 acre estate, it was the chosen retirement home of Peninsular War hero General Sir Thomas Picton, who went to live there in 1814. His stay was unfortunately very brief, for when Napoleon escaped from his island prison on Elba, the Duke of Wellington recalled Picton to the colours. He was given command of the 5th Division and reserves, and left London on the 11th June 1815. A week later he was killed at Waterloo on the 18th June 1815.
Upon arrival we were met by a couple who were living in the south wing! We had mixed feelings on their residential status. Again the interior is in a ruinous state and not advisable to venture in. And the views were spectacular.

It made a nice change to do something different.
Thanks for looking.
