I took another trip over to the Father Hudson’s site in Coleshill this week to take another look around.

It has been just over a year since I was last inside the Boys home and it has deteriorated quite a lot since then. I also made it into the Convent building where the resident Nuns would have lived. This was in reasonably good condition but with not a lot to see inside it was a bit of a disappointment.

The boy’s home was built in 1905 for The Father Hudson Society to house orphans and it closed in 1995 amidst allegations of child abuse. Paedophile priest Father Eric Taylor was jailed in 1998 after being convicted of abusing children at the home during the 1950s and 1960s.

The building has been up for sale for some time with no interest from buyers and although it sits on a conservation area it is not listed and may possibly end up being pulled down.

Inside it is quite dark in places due to the boarding but it is still worth a visit.

As I was leaving I was approached by two community Police Officers and told that I was on private property and it had been reported that there had been someone mooching around the buildings (me). There doesn’t seem to be any security but it turns out that the staff at the adjacent care home will call the Police if they seen anyone about so be aware of this if you intend to visit.
