I was lucky enough to recently visit the Mid Wales Hospital and was suprised as to how vast it was, I've seen many photos of this place and would be pleased if my photos were half as good or interesting as theirs. While exploring I met up with a fellow urban explorer who showed me the location of the hall. The atmosphere was very sombre and almost every time I turned my back I caught a glimpse of someone running behind a building out of site, although I imagine this is probably just the average feral chav. My only regrets were the fact that I didn't get to climb the tower to get an overview of the site (It was enclosed and inaccessible) I didn't get to see the piano, I couldn't find it and the boiler room was boarded up along with the morgue. I was shocked to find that in one of the buildings a pipe had burst and water was streaming out, I thought the water would have been turned off to this site by now. All in all I spent 4 hours at the site and then I had to leave.

Okay I'll just post a little history here although many of you are probably familar.

The Mid Wales Hospital was a psychiatric hospital in Talgarth, Wales. It opened in 1906 and was formerly known as the Brecon and Radnor Joint Asylum or Mid Wales Counties Mental Hospital. It is in echelon style (narrow arrow)and at its peak could serve 1,000 patients.[clarification needed] However, nearer the end of its life, in 1995, this had dwindled to 168. The site was also home to the Mid and West Wales College of Nursing and Midwifery and the Powys Drugs & Alcohol Council for substance misuse.
As part of its services the hospital provided treatments for the elderly mentally ill; rehabilitation and continuing care; occupational therapy; day care facility; psychology; reflexology; physiotherapy; electro-convulsive therapy; chiropody and psychiatry.
