I know this place has been done a million times before, but it has taken me bloody ages to find it,(as I only manage to get out exploring in the evening,so lack of light can be a problem) getting in was fucking precarious due to the recent weather & the descent down the first mud covered staircase was rather interesting but when I got to solid dry ground it was well worth it ,any here are some of my pics.

yes this one is very good, prob cos the entrance is quite hard to find, s8 and i spent a whgile looking for it in pretty damn freezing wind lol, it was nice to get in side!

was the dodgy blue rope still there? when we went it snapped on us and for a mo we wondered how we were going to get up the slippery clay slope and out cos there is not an awful lot to get a fot hold on, unless your legs are long enough to straddle the tunnel lol!

still, its pretty good, i think this is the one with the 1940's graff in the unlined chalk bit

When it was bricked-up they used a load of bricks that were once the latrines and there's lots of random grafitti on them. On a side note, the secondary entrances (which always seem to be unlined) came out behind the old sound mirrors which had stood there since the thirties, to keep them hidden/protected from the enemy. The mirrors were pushed over and buried during the 'clean-up' but you can still find traces of the entrances. Here's one halfway down the slope at Fan Hole.

I doubt those are the names of the builders as the tunnel was completed on 28th of August 1941. More likely to be the names of some of the gun crew although the battery searchlight was near to one of the secondary entrances so they could belong to some of those guys.

And just to be pedantic, it's Fan Hole, not Fan Bay. Bays tend to be up against the sea, this is at the top of the cliffs. :)
