Visited in April last year, 2009.

This lovely building is Rosendale Hospital, originally built as a workhouse in 1868 and then converted into part of Rossendale Hospital in the 1930s. The building is truly stunning and I hope it gets saved and not burned down or vandalised. A large part of the site is still live and the old part has an active security dude.

Please take into account this was a spur of the moment visit with no torch and very little time. There is a whole load in here waiting to be discovered and I think we are the first :thumb

In the old days as a workhouse

How it looks now, fantastic (except for the boards)

I was very nearly born here, but as I was premature, they took my Mum to Fairfield instead (which had a better baby unit or something). Mum was worried, she was quite far gone (she'd initially thought the labour pains were indigestion) and was worried she would have me in the carpark... but not as worried as when they gave her gas and air and she was worried she would tell her deepest, darkest secrets to all and sundry. I think she'd got nitrous oxide mixed up with sodium pentathal.

As I'm a 1970s kid, whilst all this was going on, Dad was in the middle of a game of rugby. Apparently they told him Mum was in labour over the tannoy, whilst he was still holding the ball, causing him to stop running, and two big buggers promptly hammered him into the turf.
