Sad to see the old rest house abandoned like this. The "Rest house" back in the
day was the only consistent cheap rest stop for government servants and the public,
something the old colonials dreamt up before the war and had these establishments
dotted around Malaya in major towns and districts.
The rest house offered clean rooms to sleep, good food and a peaceful setting to relax.
Today, most people don't even know what a rest house is.

As for this particular rest house, I remember it well, frequenting it back in the 70's and 80's as we
used it as a rest stop for long road trips up country, or a base for boat trips to the various
surrounding tropical islands.

Mersing is a town, its beach is well known, for health resort and honeymoon. In Malaya
rest houses are popular because they are government's own. Mersing rest house may be
small, but it provides comfort for all, best to eat and best to snore, time for you to come,
bring your children and have plenty of fun.
