My first post

Please excuse the quality of the pics. Bit of a rush job, my employer takes a dim view of out of bounds mooching :D

History - RAF Alconbury, to give it its modern day name, was opened in 1938. A tri base along with RAF Molesworth and RAF Upwood. All three are still in use by the United States Army Airforce (USAAF).
The base has been in constant use with the exception of the years between 1945-51, when it was deemed to be "inactive".
When opened it was named RAF Station Abbots Ripton between 1938 and 1942. At this time it was under the RAF bomber control.
On the 9th September 1942, the USAAF took back control, naming it Alconbury Airdrome Station No 102.
During the Cold War it is said to have been the base for many spy planes.
USAAF Station no 547 Abbots Ripton is still an active base. The airfield, Alconbury Airdrome is now let out to various companies, including Cambridgeshire police.

The following photos are from what I believe to be the maintenance side of the Airfield.
