Kirkleatham Hall Stables in Kirkleatham near Redcar is an important building in the horse-racing history of the North East and is known to have housed famous racehorses such as “Flying Dutchman” and "Hambletonion"
An early owner was co-founder of the Jockey Club and it was used as an early stud farm for racehorses. It has an unusual circular tower in the courtyard complete with a cupola; one theory is that this was for viewing the racing, breeding and stud horses as they were walked around the yard.
It was built in the early 18th century, the gatehouse is dated to about 1780 and is Grade II listed, also Appears on the buildings at risk Register.
Kirkleatham hall to which the stables belonged was demolished in 1954, Looking at the place I would say the Stables have been abandoned since at lest the 1960's, Recently English Heritage has given nearly £200,000 to secure the future of the site, as you can see some work has started clearing the site in preparation for some restoration.
Around the site are Various Ha Ha walls, Bastions, Gateposts and a rather splendid folly archway - apparently used for viewing the horses being galloped.
I Apologise for the poor Photos, this was a hurried shoot whilst I was at work, taken handheld with only the built in flash for lighting.
I was very lucky to gain access to this site, I cannot find anyone else who has internals.
I plan a return visit to take some more externals and shots of the various other site features.

Stables survive, 2 blocks of stables, one on each side of a corridor.
