Last year I had the good fortune to get permission to check out the old Tampoi mental
hospital, which at the time of visiting was still active.
The hospital was first built in 1936. The majority of buildings on site are single storey,
with the exception of the main admin block.

The main rule for this visit, strictly no photographs of the current population.

Basic ward design with high ceilings and a jack roof for added ventilation.

Murals are straight to the point.

Behind the blue perimeter wall is the Forensic Psychiatry ward, holding violent patients/inmates.
This section was off limits.

No idea if these were done by a patient or a commissioned artist.

A vacant ward, recently cleaned out and awaiting patients.

The easiest form of transport for staff to cover the huge sprawling facility.

In the next few months this facility will be demolished and all operations moved to
a new location. I hope to make a follow up visit to the site, just before its destruction.
