Visited as part of the North East Urbex Forums getting-to-know-you meet-type thing.

So, once we'd got over the obligatory fail:p and maccyd's brekkie, we made our way (via being lost and a long walk) to Normans Riding Hospital. This had been on my list for a fair while, after a tragic failure 12 months ago involving a swift entry through a hole in the wall, followed by a swift exit via same hole only to find the hole plastered with used condoms. Bleurgh. But we were escaping from copper pirates so there’s wasn’t much option...

Trashedness:

12 months ago, the site had security, holed up in a little cottage. Unfortunately the copper pirates were cunning, and used the extensive tunnel network to strip the place from the inside out. And when security for the site ceased completely in August, the site was comprehensively trashed by all and sundry. So the explore was smoky, damp and mungey... lovely! The low-light of the trip had to be finding the redundancy notices for all the staff – with the world the way it is at the moment, that was a sobering moment, as were the prescriptions for patients meds. :( Normans Riding had previously been an infectious diseases hospital, but was converted to a care home. The prescriptions were largely for meds to control patients’ bowel movements, or sleeping habits. Believe me, when I get to the stage where wearing someone else’s knickers and unable to tell whether it’s bog or breakfast time – don’t put me in a place like this, just shoot me.:wflag

The wallpaper alone would be enough to drive anyone insane.

Once we’d reconvened by the sad little pond, we decided to head for Marley Tiles, being in the vicinity. One short stop for chips and interlude with minidiggers later, we found ourselves walking the now very battered and deserted sheds of the Marley Tiles. There was an interesting chair.:p

Once the thrill of finding the interesting chair had abated, and the (already pretty poor) light was beginning to fade, we made our way back to the cars, via the lake. Where someone had a very bad idea, and we all got wii arm.;)

It was fun.:)
