Disco Kitten and I visited here back in November, and again in December. Lilli checked Milford out some years ago, but I don't think anyone has been back since... my word, it's pretty fucked now, but there are still one or two gems to be found inside:) As yet I have not sorted my pics from the December explore (which was better!), I shall try to rectify this over the next few days.
All I know about this place is that my Granny died here in 1985 or so, and that it was quite run down and depressing then. DK and I both guessed that there was something very sanatorium like about the place and dear old Wiki tells us this:
"Milford Hospital located in the Surrey village of Milford, was opened in 1909. The hospital has had a number of different names over its history. These have ranged from; The County Sanatorium, Surrey Smallpox Hospital, Milford Sanatorium, Milford Chest Hospital and most recently Milford Hospital. Currently the hospital cares for the elderly and in rehabilitation. The site is located next to Milford railway station. The hospital has an orchard and a local recreation ground. It also has accommodation (now closed) for Nurses."
The remaining live part of the hospital is mainly based in a substantial 80s building full of smelly old people, though admin is still live, and every now and then you come across a bit that just never got closed. (that wasn't Wiki, that was me)
This seemed interesting too:
"Milford Hospital is arguably the birthplace of the British Sitcom. In the early 50's Galton & Simpson (the writers of Hancock and Steptoe & Son) created early comedy scripts together whilst patients in Milford TB Hospital. Many years later in 1996 their time there was the basis for a BBC sitcom "Get Well Soon" set in a similar TB Hospital "near Guildford".
Milford was a sister hospital to the larger King George V Sanatorium, two miles to the East in Hydestile. Nothing at all remains of this, having been completely demolished in 1998"
Visited with DK who was suffering from a bad back... not for long though, access was interesting, involving lots of climbing, dead ends and very tight squeezes, and where I got stuck by my bollocks, Ms Kitten ended up with sore tits (my offer of linement was graciously refused). Even so, we both agreed that it was worth it... I hope you do too.

Water tower seemed stripped and all made of concrete... with a ladder we might have made it, not really sure if it's going to be worth the effort... Upskirt shot!

Tunnels under went all the way back up to the far end, which took us about 40 mins and spat us out in the middle of the live hospital... got out unchallenged though.
