This place is Steetly Magnesite in Hartlepool and I must say it's a fantastic place. Half demolished, half remains and it's like something from the end of the world, true industrial Armageddon.

There are some incredible shots to be had and the colours are almost alien. Everything a good explorer needs is here from huge tanks of green water, toxic sludge and a lovely chimney.

It closed in 2005 though being there you would think it closed back in the 1960s. Some more info here.

Explored with squirrel68 who also loved the place.

Just a bit of a heads up, make sure you dont go alone at the minute, pikeys are known to be working it at the moment. They even had a JCB down there last week and very nearly cut off the gas to half of Hartlepool (and would have blown themselves up in the process) when they were trying to steal the mains gas pipe that runs through there. Was a two page article in the local rag about it.

It is such a great site - so photogenic it is really hard to take a bad picture of the place... Just hope your car is still there when you get back to where you left it ;)

you can just about drive onto the site.
Either park here:
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=54.707549&lon=-1.211788&z=20&r=0&src=msl
(thats where most people park inc the people who fish off the pier)

or here
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=54.709816&lon=-1.221428&z=18&r=0&src=msl
(havent parked there myself)

Bear in mind tho what shepy said.
This area is rough as a badgers arse. Even the pikeys travel in teams about here.
Dont go alone.
There have been instances in the past of people having bricks lobbed at them by the local chavs.
