Everything you could ever want to know about the place here. http://midwalescountylunaticasylum.fotopic.net/

The hospital is in recievership, despite the fact it was bought for next to nothing and then being unmercilessly stripped of all its tiles and hardwood fittings.

What a shame to let it rot. I struggle to see how anyone can be so short sighted as to let it get into that state so quickly. Top pics SS :thumb

Cheers Tc, this shows the state of the buildings, scavanged for their tiles and left to die.

yeah thats what i concluded,

interestingly 7 people drowned accidentally in a canal from his battalion when in france on the comms lines, perhaps he was one of the 20 that fell in the canal in a lorry, survived, got home and wasnt right since and died in the hospital.

Did talgarth cater purely for just Mental health or could he have been there, with say, tb or something?

I dont know

In order for a soldier to receive his pension when afflicted with a mental issue the war pensions office required them to be admitted to the asylum. He will either be a victim of shell shock or gpi, more likely shell shock so early on.

The pensions did argue for a long time that anyone with shell shock must have been weak minded prior to enlistment and that the shell shock just tipped them over the edge.
