When it got dark at Beelitz we departed for Lungenheilstätte am Grabowsee, which is situated in the middle of nowhere.

We stopped off at approximately every service station, looking for fuel to cook on, before we went into a massive shopping centre in Potsdam. It took two hours to get to Grabowsee, and the last 20 minutes of that was driving down a cobbled road that ended by a lake. We entered the site and searched for a suitable place to sleep. We had to re-hang the door, but we made it pretty homely by furnishing it with mattresses and sofas found in a store We lit a fire made of wood we found in the grounds and cooked sausages and pork steaks, before retiring to our room. The owls did their best to keep us awake but when you’re that tired, you just sleep.

When we woke up in the morning it was freezing cold, again.

After an hour or so, I got lost from our small group, and spent 20 minutes wandering around alone in this ruin, perforating the silence with the crackling of broken glass under my feet. I stood in a courtyard looking up at a statue of Mother Russia and a child, both decapitated since dereliction, until the group returned from the lake and burnt out chapel.

We left for Buchallee Wiessensee Sauglings kinder Krankenhaus, where a man with green hair and a german shepherd chased us. He told us the rules of dogs before we headed for a set of co-ordinates that we believed would lead us to the Havel military camp. It did, but that’s another story for tomorrow….
