Not UE but a very impressive place in the fading October light. Five Rise Locks are a lock staircase on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal. The Locks lift boats over 60ft and this makes it the steepest climb in the UK.

Just down river is the famous Damart Mill and the lesser know Three Rise locks. There is a run off which at one point probably powered something in the Damart Mill as the water emerges from beneath the mill.

The locks need constant work to keep them in good condition.

If the sun was setting over that in the right way, it would look immense

Always good to see canal stuff. I bet there were big "traffic jams" waiting to go through there. At the Nine Locks, in Brierley Hill in the Black Country, it would take about half a day to get up/down, and delays sometime running into days. :thumb

The locks there are a great feat of engineering, how else do you raise a boat through such an altitude? :)

That last pic with the industry in the background is a great shot. I like these old canals they present so many different images and up till the railway were the main veins of transport through the country - nice stuff.
