I decided to try and bag my first asylum and while, not quite what I was hoping for, still managed to have an enjoyable explore.

If only life were so simple eh?

Skin posted a great report earlier in the year here (http://www.urbexforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4441&highlight=strathmartine) which covers the history etc.

After finding a quiet spot to park in, I started walking the perimeter looking for ingress, nothing apparent and the 7ft high fence topped out with barbed wire was starting to put me off for a bit until opportunity presented itself. The first thing that struck me was the scale and (i know this sound stupid here) but abandonedness of the site. It's really quite a big site compared to other things I've done.

As I made my way through a large courtyard and up some concrete steps to a higher level (and having played a lot of CoD4 on Xbox), I could understand why the airsoft guys have been using this place.

I walked the perimeter of most of the main buildings looking for possible entrances but nearly everything was shut up really tight and I'm not really a climber (especially with tripod and lenses etc), managed to steal a few shots through some windows. One thing well worth being aware of is that most of the paths are made of concrete sleepers covering over a ditch with pipes etc. in lots of places the sleepers have been moved and it's not always easy to spot where they have in the long grass.

When I headed up the hill I found one of the more modern buildings accessible (oddly enough the glass was smashed out the way).

The place stank and was totally wrecked, I couldn't quite work out if it was the roof being stripped of its tiles and not being water tight or pure vandalism (or a combination) that meant all the ceiling tiles were lying in a very gloopy, soggy mess on the floor.

It was quite a confusing explore as it was gloomy and all the ward rooms were interconnected by windows (I kept have to wave my arms around to work out if I was looking at a reflection or not. My guess from the decor is that it was mostly kids that stayed in this building.

The red liquid in that gave me the willies.

A little self portrait before leaving made it clear this was no funhouse.

Come on! You didn't think I'd do an explore without repping for the Urbex Chair Massive eh?

Thanks for looking.
